A New Years Revolution January 8, 2007

You say new years, I say new fears.
You say resolution, I say revolution.
Having fallen from the precipice of 2006 into the uncharted valley of 2-double-o-7, you may find yourself contemplating the upcoming year. You may even be one of the fashionable citizens of this earth planet who likes to make new years resolutions; might I suggest swapping a ‘v’ for the ‘s’? However, don’t take this the wrong way. It is with all humility and deference that I submit this significantly minor modification for your consideration. I don’t mean to impose and I certainly do not doubt that you have a deep and meaningful resolution. Nor do I assume any inability to abide by it for more than 3 weeks. It is not like that. I have full faith in the acumen and determination of the average consumer. Their great depth of knowledge and foresight have been proven time and again, as has their propensity to always act for the ultimate well being of present and future generations. (I write this as a 60 degree January breeze blows through my Northern United States window. In fact I haven’t even seen snow all year.)
This is the proposition: let us make our resolution a revolution, a revolution of consciousness. Not a revolution that is violent, non-violent, anti-government, pro-government, rather a revolution of the mind. It must be an internal revolution based on love.
………………………………………………………………………………………………
If we are what we eat, then we are even more so what we think. If our thoughts are centered on greed, exploitation, lust, envy, and power, what will we become? Our mind is the very foundation of our being. The way we live, think, act, talk, move, spend-it is all rooted in the mind. Our personalities and propensities are the external manifestations of our consciousness; our state of mind.
What is the largest problem, the largest disease facing the people of the world today? Its not cancer, its not aids, its not heart disease or Alzheimer’s. According to the latest statistics from the National Institute of Mental Health, it is mental illness (http://www.nimh.nih.gov/healthinformation/statisticsmenu.cfm). Over one quarter of the population of developed nations suffers from some form of serious mental illness. This is more then it has ever been, and it is still on the rise. In trying to pinpoint the cause, one may present many secondary factors, but the primary problem is: fear. Think about it. What is the root of all anxiety, all stress, all depression and all suicidal thought? It is only fear disguising itself in many different manifestations. We feel fear of losing power, position, prestige, money. We deal with fear of failure or facing the consequences of our actions. We have constant fear of the future and what new fears it will bring. What is that famous quote? “The only thing you have to fear- is fear itself”
Fear is also the favorite means by which the government/mass media oligarchy continues to mentally enslave the masses. This point as of late has been elucidated by many as the unabashed treachery and sinister schemes of the oligarchy has plummeted to such depths that it has become difficult to keep the wool over everyone’s eyes. Some of the recent documentaries by free thinking filmmakers come to mind. Unfortunately the stranglehold is far from being loosened. Primarily, this is because no viable solutions to the problem have been offered. Plenty of people are pointing out the problem, but how many are sincerely, intelligently, innovatively working toward a solution? The typical response is to get angry and complain. Then, back into the machine. Others may take it one step further and use their anger to fight back in one of the traditional, hackneyed methods, but to no avail. So, licking their wounds, they retreat back into the shelter of the familiar buzzing of the machine. Slaves are even more obedient after receiving a good beating from their master.
Even within medicine, it is a well known fact that when a disease is attacked time and again with the same medicine, eventually it will figure out how to beat the drug at its own game. The same is true when trying to fight the viral oligarchy spreading the fear disease. Don’t think that they aren’t able to counter any of the traditional methods of revolution even before they begin. Do not underestimate the forces of the enemy. They are not stupid people. They are not poor people. Practically speaking, all the resources of the world at their disposal. It is not very difficult for them to figure out how to squash your typical revolutionary action. They are old pros. And as long as you keep your mind and intelligence immersed in the realm which they control you are always going to be puppets on a string. What is this realm? It is the realm of quarrel and hypocrisy, of fast food and wholesale, barbaric animal slaughter. It is a realm of TV and movies, video games and commercial entertainment. A realm of selfishness and greed, lust and exploitation. It is the realm of the masses, the realm of fear. FEAR: False Evidence Appearing Real. It is illusion, a misunderstanding of reality and lack of real knowledge. Fear is the link keeping us in the prison of our artificially flavored minds, obsequiously stamping license plates so that we can enjoy a few hours of cable TV, satisfying our fix for further fear.
The question naturally arises: what is the panacea for this disease of fear? Fear is rooted in ignorance, the ignorance of ones true identity and the dharma, or essential qualities and characteristics, of that identity. In a nutshell, the cure is knowledge. Not just theoretical knowledge, but realized, active knowledge.
Now this might not sit right at first pass; ‘cause I mean, really, how can just knowing something cure a disease? But stop a moment and consider the situation. The disease we are dealing with is mental illness, disease of the mind. The mind is that facility by which we come to know things. It ‘eats’ information and knowledge, ‘digests’ it, and then distributes it when and where it is needed. So in the same way we eat medicine when our body is sick, we can ‘eat’ knowledge when our mind is sick. Or, looking at it another way, when we are listless and diseased due to malnourishment caused by starvation or improper diet, we need to eat some nutritious food to regain our health. The same applies to the malnourished mind. If we spend all day feeding junk food (or nothing at all) to our consciousness it should be of no surprise when it gets horribly sick.
When our bodies are plagued by disease, we need to see a doctor to get a prescription. The same applies to the mind. Of course we have our psychiatrists and psychologists, and no doubt they serve a valuable purpose. Unfortunately, however, the rate of mental illness continues to increase, even in the wake of so many ‘advancements’ in psychology (ie more drugs made by the oligarchy). It seems that there is a pill for everything these days, so easy and convenient. But as was stated earlier, the mind eats - and is permanently affected - by knowledge, not pills. To mount a physical attack against a mental disease is an inherently flawed strategy. It is like putting a person with a fever in a bath of ice water and telling them “now you are ok. Your temperature has gone down”. An internal problem cannot be solved by external means. We are in need of a second opinion, a prescription for knowledge that heals, not pills that hide.
Try this on for size: Understand that you are more then just a physical body of flesh and blood, and a material mind of accepting and rejecting. Release the propensity for material intelligence of scheming and speculating. You are actually an eternal, blissful spirit soul. The soul happens to be donning a particular ‘body suit’ attained as a result of its past karma and desires. This suit is always changing throughout its short life, and will change completely at the time of death. But the real you, the soul, remains; reaping the fruit of its good or bad actions. In effect the body is like an animal, a pet that goes along with you everywhere. Like a big dog that you can ride in instead of on. As such this pet body has certain built-in inclinations. Pre-programmed (genetic) codes of action and desire processed and carried out by the very powerful CPU (the mind). Like most other animals, it likes to satisfy its senses as much as possible, for better or for worse. The dog is always busy satisfying his desire for food, sex, sleep, and power. All bodies have a built-in dog like nature, to varying degrees. Obviously, if we identify this body and mind as the self, we will behave like dogs.
One may argue here that most people have adopted a higher conception of self, one that takes into greater consideration the higher levels of cognizance and abstract thinking afforded by the especially advanced human mind and intelligence. As such many societies have developed moral ‘codes’ from which laws governing the generally accepted standards of behavior are generated. Thus rape, murder, senseless abuse, theft, etc, are not acceptable actions within most ‘civilized’ human cultures. Upon careful consideration, however, it can be observed that the activities of the human mind and intelligence are mostly just refined versions of animalistic bodily activities. Instead of beating the life out of a competitor whose girlfriend you are lusting after, then immediately raping her, humans prefer to subtly undermine and psychology assault the competitor until he is forced to fold, then delude the girlfriend through devious means. (Myriad other examples can and should be presented, but I will leave it to the reader to compile an extended list.) The intelligence has simply figured out how to steal, how to exploit and oppress others in a more ‘civilized’ way.
Take for example, the horrific saga of the European settlers in their dealings with the Native Americans. Or in more recent times the ‘war on terror’ in Iraq. These are Classic examples of the “I want what you got so give it to me or else” attitude. Thus we see that the highly developed human mind and intelligence, without proper knowledge, only serve to create more complex and wider reaching problems. History has shown that in the course of humans satisfying their lust and greed in more refined ways that they have not only hurt the few challengers who might pose a direct threat to such satisfaction, but millions of other innocent bystanders as well. Taking into account the effects of large scale war, nuclear bombs, and the environmental damage to the entire earth that has been a byproduct of this satisfaction of selfish desires, one begins to wonder whether we humans really are as smart as we think. After all, when was the last time you heard of a bunch of dogs building a nuclear bomb? Or releasing billions of tons of toxic substances into the earth that will adversely affect the quality of life for many generations to come? For that matter, when was the last time you saw a wild animal with a mental illness? It doesn’t happen. It is only when animals are forced to be pets and live like humans that their minds become diseased, but let us not dwell on this point, as the basic principles of the problem should by now be clear. Let us now try to understand the solution, knowledge of the eternally love-filled soul.
The soul is the source of life, and thus by definition consciousness as well. The essential nature of the soul is to love and serve. This is the food of the soul. Love and service is what the soul thrives on. The soul is happy and satisfied when it is able to love and serve. This can be practically understood by any honest person willing do deeply consider his own life experiences and the experiences of others. Since the soul is the root of life and consciousness, when the soul is happy the mind and body will automatically be happy, as they are just instruments of the soul. And vise versa. The mind is that instrument of the soul by which it ‘eats’ knowledge, the mouth of the soul. The consciousness, which is a direct manifestation of the soul, is inextricably linked with the mind, like the stomach is to the mouth. If the mind is filled with junk food, devoid of the loving, selfless, benevolent thoughts which nourish the soul, the soul will starve. When the soul starves, its direct manifestation, the consciousness, suffers. This in turn creates disease in the mind, to which it is inextricably linked, as a stomach infection causes putrid smells and even infectious vomit to emanate from the mouth. But when the soul is well nourished by beautiful, loving, selfless thoughts in the mind, it will thrive. When the soul thrives, the mind becomes supremely healthy and happy. When the mind is truly, deeply happy and satisfied, there is no longer any greed, lust, or desire to lord it over others because fear and its evil minions have been eradicated. Our revolution of consciousness has borne its sweet, sweet fruits.
……………………………………………………………………………………………..
In this day and age, a time of hate, exploitation and selfishness, it is truly a revolutionary act to be loving and selfless in all circumstances. To be a humble servant of everyone, always offering all respect to others and expecting none in return. To act in this way one must first attain proper understanding of his true identity and dharma as an eternal, loving soul distinct from the material body and mind. This revolution of consciousness, revolution of love is the only revolution guaranteed to be successful. Why? Love is its crux, its foundation. Not love as we sometimes describe it, but the real, pure love of the soul. Not physical, selfish, lusty-love. No politician, no government, no wealthy special interest group, no physical force can check real love, for real love is not of this mundane realm of duality and illusion. It belongs to the realm of spirit, of pure existence, a realm which is totally inaccessible to those still clinging to the shackles of greed and envy, who have not yet received the necessary qualification for entrance into the realm of pure love: the love itself.
How can one attain this qualification? By cultivating a deep desire for it, and living our lives in such a way that we become worthy recipients of the supreme gift of pure love, the golden ticket into the realm of real happiness and satisfaction. Once we enter, we are automatically protected from any of the pernicious forces seeking to check the progress of this revolution, as their weapons of delusion and destruction are ineffective here. The more that enter, the stronger the force of the revolution becomes and the stronger it becomes, the quicker it will counter the deleterious effects of fear in its myriad manifestations, such as mental illness, greed, selfishness, and hostility. When the blinders of fear are lifted, more people will be able to see things as they really are. They will understand that if they want to become fearless, if they really want to be happy, to be satisfied, they must actively participate in this revolution of consciousness. They must cultivate pure, loving thoughts while simultaneously removing the influence of fear driven, self centered thoughts. In so doing, their minds become freed from the shackles of fear and illusion. They will understand their true identity as spirit souls, eternal and full of love, and subsequently act in that capacity, cultivating and distributing that love, which is the only food that can fully satisfy us, the ultimate need of and greatest charity for all of our brothers and sisters riding with us on planet earth.
